Calliope Presents The Barefoot Movement
Since 2011, progressive acoustic band The Barefoot Movement has been recording and touring internationally, winning the 2014 IBMA Momentum Award, and releasing four studio albums as well as a live album, a holiday album, two EP’s, and a covers collection. The brainchild of husband and wife Tommy Norris and Noah Wall, the “movement” features fiddle, mandolin, guitar, upright bass and sometimes drums, supporting soaring vocals on tunes that range in style from traditional Americana to acoustic pop. Their most recent release, 2024’s “Let It Out,” finds the group exploring new musical territory, while still standing firmly on their barefoot foundation, made up of lush harmonies, thoughtful instrumentation, and memorable melodies. “‘Let It Out’ is about acknowledging your challenges so that you can get through them”, explains Wall, “And it pertains to a lot of what we’ve been going through as a band and as people, not only being vulnerable personally but also musically, allowing ourselves to explore the rock and roll influences we’ve been hesitant to let show prior to this album.” Throughout each incarnation of the band, Noah’s singing, songwriting, and fiddle playing serve as the backbone, while Tommy Norris’s mandolin skills supply musical dexterity to their sound. Current guitarist Ben Howington and rotating upright bassists and drummers round out their unique blend of charming, modern roots music. Their energetic, joyous, and heartfelt performances have garnered them fans nationwide and beyond, as far away as Burkina Faso, Africa and as close to home as their native Granville County, NC.
